Her accused attackers apparently told police that she was meant to be a sacrifice to a mythical creature popular in the genre of internet-based horror fiction known as "creepypasta"—a character called "The Slender Man. The character that eventually became so important to two girls that they stabbed their friend started on the forums of the humor pit Something Awful. According to the reliable web archive Know Your Meme , Slender Man first appeared in in a series of images created by a man named Eric Knudsen, who entered two photos into a "paranormal pictures" Photoshop contest.
Judge grants maximum penalty sought by prosecutors in case of Morgan Geyser, who was 12 when she attacked a classmate. Earlier, he heard from four doctors who talked about how Geyser was making progress with her mental illness, to various degrees. Geyser, now 15, spoke briefly before she was sentenced, breaking down in tears as she apologized to the girl she stabbed, Payton Leutner. Geyser and another girl, Anissa Weier , admitted that they lured Leutner into some woods near a suburban Milwaukee park. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier urged her on, according to investigators.
